Hey Doctor Moms!
Did you know it is not about the quantity of fruits and veggies your child eats… what’s more important is the DIVERSITY of plant foods?
The American Gut Project conducted the world's largest gut health study and has some fascinating insights that can help all of us improve our health.
After analyzing the stool samples of more than 10,000 people from around the world, they discovered that the number one factor for a healthy gut was the number of different plants eaten in a week.
The magic number? 30.
Eat 30 different plants? Every single week? For optimal gut health?
Yup, you heard that right.
The research showed that people who ate more than 30 different plants per week had a more diverse mix of gut bacteria than those who ate less than 10.
More plants = more good bacteria in our gut
More good bacteria = stronger immune system response
Stronger immune system response = healthier & more vibrant life!
As moms, we also know that eating 30 different plants in a week can be easier said than done.
Falling into a rut of serving the same strawberries and cucumbers? We feel you.
Want your family to be more willing to try new things? We feel you.
That’s exactly why we’ve teamed up with Dr. Elana Roumell and are bringing you the Color Your Plate Challenge!
A 7 day challenge that will get your family EXCITED and WILLING to try lots of different plant foods.
For 7 days, you will count and track how many different plant foods you eat. Even one bite counts! Plants are anything that grows: fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and beans.
Calculate your points each day and see how you do. Once again, the goal is 30 in one week. If you eat strawberries twice in 1 week that's still just 1 point because we are counting the number of different plants you eat in a week.
To support you, we have a downloadable guide with great resources, recipes, trackers, and tips for the whole family.
Plus, in the Doctor Mom private Facebook Group, we will provide ongoing support for the 7 days as we share even more creative ways to add in some extra plant points. Get ready for some fun recipes like our rainbow fruit salad!
Join us May 19th-25th as we “color our plates” and create a lot of fun for our families to eat more plants! Nothing like a friendly little challenge to motivate your kids to try just one bite :)
